October is nearly over

The first 9 weeks are behind us, and we are into the second quarter. In reading, we have been working on drama and poetry. We will be finishing this up next week then going into expository texts. In writing, we are still delving deep into the writing process and completing revisions of our autobiography and writing poetry. In Social Studies, we have been learning about money in our communities. I will be starting some tutoring and enrichment groups afterschool on Tuesdays and Fridays. Thank you if you have already signed up and are allowing your child to come. I am enjoying working with all the students this year. I really do have one of the best classes ever. It's going to be a great year.

1st quarter grading period ends Friday

The end of the 1st quarter grading period ends Friday. Remind your child to turn in all missing work and/or corrections. I have been discussing this with the students and will continue to stay on them throughout the week. I hope you and your child has had as much fun as I have this 1st quarter. I can't believe we are already 1/4 of the way through with this year after this week. My, how the time does fly!

Whew! September flew by!

Well, we've made it through the 1st full month of school. It has been AMAZING. I am loving working with all my students every day. They are some of the most incredible and wonderful students I've ever had.
We have had our first 3 week test for Reading and Writing and are continuing to work on developing and strengthen our skills where it is needed. In Reading we have moved from the genre of fiction to nonfiction including biographies, autobiographies, drama, and poetry. We will be writing our autobiographies next week and publishing in a classroom book. Be sure to ask your child how this is going. In Social Studies we have still been learning about communities, specifically our community of the United States, the Founding Documents, and the Founding Fathers. Ask your child about this as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Also, I will be scheduling conferences soon for November 11, 2015 for the afternoon.

1/2 way through week 2

Well, we are still going strong. We have been to the library and learned the rules in the library. We will be checking out next Tuesday. The students are allowed to choose 2 books, one of the books needs to be on their independent reading level, the other book can be anything they choose (except "I Spy" and drawing). In Reading, we are learning about "real reading" where you have to think about your thinking when you are reading. We are continuing to make and confirm predictions, make inferences, draw conclusions, sequencing and summarizing fictional stories. In Writing, we are continuing to learn more about nouns, verbs, synonyms, antonyms, subject and predicate. We are brainstorming to continue to build our ideas for writing.

Day 3

Well, today was our 1st day to switch classes. It was a success. In Reading/Writing we made predictions and worked to build our stamina with independent reading. Tomorrow our goal is to read for 10 minutes without getting tired or giving up. I have complete confidence that both classes will meet this goal. They are truly the best classes. I'm so happy to have them in my class. We also read the story "Miss Nelson Is Missing" and made predictions about what happened to Miss Nelson.

2nd Day of School

Well, we made it another day! It was a wonderful second day. I have nearly learned every students name in BOTH classes. I will definitely have all of them by Friday. Today we finished setting up our journals for all our subjects. The students will have 6 journals: 1 for Reading, 1 for Writing, 1 for Social Studies, 1 for Vocabulary, 1 for Math, and 1 for Science. We finished hanging our "All About Me Butterflies". Be sure to check them out. They are hanging in the hall between our rooms. We also was able to share some items that helped others to learn about what is important to each of us. Tomorrow will be the 1st day will with actually switch classes. It is going to be great. I love teaching each and every one of your children.

Meet the Teacher Night

Meet the Teacher night was HUGE success! Thank you to all the parents, students, and friends that came. I am very excited to begin this new year. Supplies were unpacked, and I was able to visit with many wonderful new students for this coming year. I loved seeing both new and former students. FNE is a great place where I Matter, You Matter, We All Matter!!!
