Floresville ISD announced the Teacher and Students of the Month for January 2024.
Mrs. Casey Homeier, a 2006 graduate of Floresville High School and current teacher at Floresville North Elementary, was named Teacher of the Month. After receiving her master’s degree in Elementary Education from Wayland Baptist University, Mrs. Homeier returned to Floresville ISD as a special education teacher. After that, she found her true calling, teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten. She said, “It is important to show my students that I care about them and that they can always come to me for anything. I want my students to be the best they can be and reach their fullest potential.” Building relationships is the foundation of Mrs. Homeier’s classroom; each morning, she greets her students as they enter the room and asks them about something going on in their lives. During class, you might observe her setting academic and behavior goals with each student and helping them to track their own progress and giving hugs and words of encouragement. One of her students said, “I love Mrs. Homeier. She teaches me my letters and now I can read words.” Mrs. Homeier also excels in building positive relationships with parents through regular correspondence, newsletters, and conferences. Parents are confident that their babies are loved and are learning. Her colleagues say Mrs. Homeier “always has a smile on her face and is willing to help out whenever needed. She finds ways to make learning fun and engaging for not only her students but all kindergarten students.”
Camila Romero-McKay is one of the two Students of the Month. Camila is an exceptional student who is full of enthusiasm and has a positive attitude. She participates in the FNE safety patrol and uses her extra time to read graphic novels, play with her dog, play soccer, and spend time with friends. AT school, she enjoys Math class and STEM rotation and is looking forward to participating in more STEM opportunities in middle school. Her teachers describe her as “an excellent student who is very responsible, calm and sweet. She is an excellent role model for others, both in behavior and learning. She is incredibly helpful and dependable and daily exhibits traits that will help her to be successful in the future.” Her peers say, “Camila is really nice and smart. She always helps me and knows the right answer.” In the future she plans to work hard learning more math, since she especially enjoys solving equations, and may be interested in engineering in the future.
Trenton Terry is the second Student of the Month. Trenton is an exceptional student who models hard work and focus daily. Outside of school, Trenton excels in playing soccer for the Wilson County Soccer League and is responsible for quite a few goals. He also enjoys playing football with his dog, watching premier league, playing video games, and spending time with family and friends. His teachers describe him as “an outstanding student who puts forth his best efforts in any given situation… Just a pleasure to have in class.” Teachers also say that “Trenton is thoughtful, compassionate, and respectful to his classmates and adults.” Each day at FNE, Trenton models being a good friend and an exceptional student. Peers say they enjoy playing games with him and talking about video games. In the future, Trenton plans to play soccer in middle school and focus his academics in the area of math, with the hopes of studying mechanical engineering.
