district update

FLORESVILLE, Texas — Michael “Mike” Schroller was selected as superintendent of Floresville Independent School District during the Board of Trustees’ special meeting on Monday, October 26.

A 1992 Floresville High School graduate, Schroller brings 30 years of experience in public education, including 23 years with FISD. He has served as a teacher, coach, campus administrator, and district administrator, most recently as Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Student Services.

“Floresville ISD has been an important part of my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this district as superintendent,” Schroller said. “My first priority is to listen to our students, employees, families, and community members. I want to understand what is working well, where we need to improve, and how we can work together to help our students succeed.”

Schroller will begin his tenure by visiting campuses and reconnecting with students, employees, families, and community members. These conversations will build on his knowledge of FISD and help him understand their priorities as he takes on this new role. The district will also launch a community listening survey to provide another opportunity for feedback. That input, along with a review of student achievement, instructional priorities, district finances, operations, and facilities, will help guide his work.

His entry plan focuses on building on the district’s strengths and identifying opportunities for improvement. These efforts will support FISD’s mission to develop innovative, lifelong learners who possess the character traits needed for personal and professional success. He also plans to share updates about what he learns and the steps the district will take in response.

“Mike understands the importance of our schools to this community and the responsibility that comes with leading them,” said Board President Stephen Shodrock. “We look forward to working with him to support our employees, strengthen student achievement, and plan responsibly for the district’s future.”

Schroller was named the district’s lone finalist on October 5 following a search that included community input and candidate interviews.

The Board of Trustees also expressed appreciation to Dr. Lana Collavo, who has served as interim superintendent since July 1, for her leadership and support during the transition.

Information about Schroller’s first steps and opportunities to provide feedback will be shared through the district website at www.fisd.us and Floresville ISD’s official social media channels.
